The period under review, April 2019 to March 2020, heralded a new era in the life of Barbados’ elite youth programme with the change from the twenty-eight-year-old Barbados Youth Service programme to the re-defined Barbados YouthADVANCE Corps programme.
On August 15th, 2019, the Barbados YouthADVANCE Corps was established as a two (2) year programme designed to expose participants to discipline, citizenship and civic education, self-esteem building, etiquette, and a range of personal development courses.
The residential component is followed by approximately eleven (11) months of specific technical and vocational training. The second year of the programme will focus on work experience activities, and will include job attachments, apprenticeships, and internships as well as participation in community service and national projects.
